The Toxicity
of Roof Runoff

Scientific Studies show that roof runoff contains highly toxic
and carcinogenic compounds including creosote
and benzo(a)pyrene
(BaP). According to the US EPA if levels of BaP exceed the MCL,
0.2 ppb, the system must notify the public via newspapers, radio,
TV and other means. Additional actions, such as providing alternative
drinking water supplies, may be required to prevent serious risks
to public health. It only takes a drop of benzo a pyrene to contaminate
5 olympic sized swimming pools to the point of being carcenogenic.
Basement sealant is also made with creosote containing BaP and
is usually applied in liquid form. Occasionally liquid creosote
spills during application or washes off with rain.

Roof Runoff is also a source of heavy metals and
natural substances such as high bacteria counts from bird droppings
etc. This intake pipe has algae and standing water suitable for
mosquitos.
